Music Supervisor - Ann Marie Shields
After graduating with honours from University College Dublin Ireland, Ann Marie worked and travelled in the USA for 4 years before relocating to London in 1990 to look after business for her brother Kevin’s band My Bloody Valentine. She co-ordinated the making of the band’s internationally acclaimed album ‘Loveless’, tour-managed the band on major tours throughout the world and assisted them in setting up a professional recording studio in London.
During that time Ann Marie managed Rollerskate Skinny, Laika and Lotus Crown, signing record and publishing deals with major international labels and arranged tours across Europe and America including supports with major artists such as Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, Pavement, The Young Gods, Tricky and slots on Lollapalooza, USA.
Shields also tour-managed Dinosaur Jr, The Telescopes and Laika, in the UK and USA and did European PR for album 'Boces' by Mercury Rev.
In 1996 Ann Marie set up the Reprise Records London office on behalf of Warner Bros Inc and during her 6 years as A&R manager for Reprise Records she set up a new independent record label called Morpheus Records releasing records by Snake River Conspiracy,
La Honda, Christmas, White Hotel, hip hop ragga maestro MAD LION, ICE and The Bug and founded London hip hop event guide ‘Whatta Gwan’.
Ann Marie took over sole ownership of the Morpheus label when Reprise Records and Warner Records merged. She managed
PJ Harvey founding member and record producer Rob Ellis who produced Mercury Award winning album ‘Stories From The City Stories From The Sea’ and assisted Rob set up recording sessions with international artists including Marianne Faithful.
Whilst Rob acted as Musical Director for Martina Topley Bird (Tricky), Ann Marie negotiated terms and co-ordinated the auditions and rehearsals of the 10 piece band Rob put together for Martina. Shields then tour-managed the UK shows and TV appearances to launch Mercury Award nominated album 'Quixotic'.
In 2004 Ann Marie moved back to Ireland and married actor Rory James Wilson and gave birth to daughter, Alannah. At that time Ann Marie took on management of
Charlotte Hatherley (ASH/ Bat For Lashes/ Bryan Ferry/ Client/ KT Tunstall), so she set up independent record label Little Sister Records to release Charlotte’s solo work and secured international distribution for the label in all major territories around the world.
Since 2001 Ann Marie has also worked on various feature films as music supervisor, including Raindance Winner 'Mr. In Between' directed by Paul Sarrosy, Joe Meek biopic 'Telstar' directed by Nick Moran, Savannah winner 'The Kid' also directed by Nick Moran and Sean Bean thriller 'Cleanskin' directed by Hadi Hajaig. Ann Marie is delighted to get the opportunity to flex her own creative muscle and discover that she has a strong talent for this kind of work. She has a wealth of contacts and keenly developed negotiating skills from her years in the music business and an understanding of music absorbed through years of working closely with musicians.
Besides her partnership in ‘Music for Movies’ with Sleeper founding member Jon Stewart (with whom she set up the Joe Meek Trust) Ann Marie also acts as a consultant for Sunshine HQ, and a project manager on records being released via this very advanced direct to fan e-commerce system for music distribution.
